Certification

Building Officials across Canada may complete an Application for National Certification and submit this along with the necessary documentation to ACBOA. See APPLICATION FORM for additional details, below.

To be considered for National Certification, applicants should:

1. Confirm you meet the minimum requirements for the level of certification / designation you are applying for by reviewing the REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION.
2. Complete the APPLICATION FORM.
3. Obtain a signature from your Provincial Building Officials Association on Page 1 of the Application form confirming you’re a member in good standing, and that you have obtained the Provincial Certification level(s), designation(s), or license(s) indicated on your application form.
4. Obtain a signature from your employer on page 2 of the Application form confirming the work experience, inspections, and plan reviews indicated on your application form.
5. Submit the completed application along with the necessary documentation and application fee to ACBOA.

Once you’ve submitted your application, necessary documentation, and payment, we will:

• Email you to acknowledge receipt of your application
• ACBOA’s Review Team will perform a review of your submitted application, and make a recommendation to ACBOA’s Certification Panel, based on the information presented in the application
• ACBOA’s Certification Panel will review the application, hold any needed discussion, and respond to ACBOA’s Review Team
• Once the response is received, we will email to inform you, and congratulate you on the certification being bestowed, if / as applicable
• We email a certificate to you for the applicable certification
• This process typically takes 6 – 8 weeks. Thank you for your patience as we work with our volunteer Review and Certification Panel team members.
