ACBOA Training & Professional Development

Who is ACBOA’s training for?
ACBOA’s training is directed to the building official community – in support of knowledge, skills development, and understanding of Canada’s National Model Building Codes. ACBOA’s training also benefits others in the building industry – improving and enriching their understanding of both the performance objectives of the Building Code and the technical requirements necessary for achieving compliant construction.
ACBOA’s training materials were developed in response to a need from its member organizations – creating a strong foundation in support of members certification programs. ACBOA’s training contributes to a knowledgeable building official workforce in supporting safe, sustainable, and accessible buildings where Canadians live, work, and play.
ACBOA works closely with its member organizations to determine training needs and collaborates with federal partners to develop necessary training solutions and resources. ACBOA acts as a central hub for various training resources and materials available to building official groups across Canada.

Core Building Code Courses

House (5 Days)

NBCC 2020

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the National Building Code of Canada requirements for housing, focusing on Part 9 construction, building science fundamentals, and life‑safety considerations for low‑rise residential buildings.

Small Buildings (5 Days)

NBCC 2020

This course expands on housing code knowledge to address Part 9 small buildings, covering occupancy classifications, fire protection, egress, structural basics, and resource conservation for low‑rise residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
